Apart from regular academic activities Department of Statistics has been conducting different training programs such as SPSS and STATA among professionals and students. The department also offers a training program on Research Methodology. Research Methodology is a hands-on course designed to impart education in the foundational methods and techniques of academic research in multidisciplinary context. The mission of the program is to improve research skills among the beginners and enhance the quality of research by the existing researchers. Participants of the course are professionals or students who have completed at least a Bachelor level or equivalent degree from any discipline.

The primary objective of this program is to provide orientation of research methodology among professionals and students. Specifically, the program aims at introducing them with the basic concepts used in research and scientific research methods. It includes discussions on sampling techniques, research designs and techniques of analysis. The specific objectives of the program are:

  • To develop understanding of the basic framework of research process, various research designs and techniques.
  • To equip participants with a basic understanding of the underlying principles of quantitative and qualitative research and establish the link between them.
  • To explore various sources of information for literature review and data collection.
  • To familiarize with the ethical issues of conducting applied research.
  • To show participants how to prepare research proposals and research articles.

Schedule of the program:

  • Duration of the program: 10 weeks
  • Number of classes: 40 classes of (60 hours)
  • Class time: 5:00PM-8:00PM (Friday and Saturday) including refreshment and prayer break

The whole process of the training would be exploratory, reflective and interactive. Power point presentations would also be given during the sessions and there will be a number of hands-on practice through group works. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will get a certificate jointly signed by the Chairman, Department of Statistics and the Convener of the training program.
